Are there any extra costs associated with your massage tuition courses?

No, there are no other required costs and our course notes and materials used during practical sessions are included as part of the course.

Is a course manual provided?

Yes. All of our courses provide a manual containing all the information covered in your chosen course, this contains all the information that you will need to successfully complete your course.

What happens if I fail the assessment?

You will be invited to re-attend the course at a later date to be re-assessed at no extra cost, dependant upon your individual needs. Any help and support that you require to ensure your success will be given.

Is there a recommended reading list?

Yes – but it is not compulsory or necessary to the syllabus to purchase these books for the course. You will receive details before and during the course of books which will aid your knowledge and understanding of your chosen course. The books mentioned will be recommended by your tutor through personal experience of finding them useful, and will be informative enough for the level of course you are undertaking.

What does the lunch include?

If you are unable to bring a packed lunch with you, a light sandwich lunch will be provided on all day courses. Please inform us if you are vegetarian or have any other special requirements. A full range of refreshments are also available throughout the day.

What happens if I have to cancel or postpone my course?

Course payments are non refundable and non transferable. Failure to attend a confirmed course will result in the loss of all payments made for that course.
In the event of a genuine reason for cancellation (proof of which may be required) a request for transfer to a later course will be considered at the discretion of the tutor, and will require a redeemable deposit.

What should I wear to the course?

We do not require our students to wear a salon uniform; however, if you already have a therapist’s dress or tunic please wear it. Clothing should be comfortable with short sleeves or sleeves that can be rolled up and a cardigan is useful. If you are attending an holistic course or workshop, please wear a white or light coloured top, details of the reason for this given upon request. Please wear flat-heeled, comfortable shoes with soles that will not mark or slip on laminate flooring. Jewellery (except wedding rings) must be removed, so for safekeeping we recommend that you leave most jewellery at home. Hair must be secured away from the face. Nails should be short, without varnish or extensions.

Why are the certified courses so much shorter than at colleges of further education?

One-to-one, intensive and fast-track training in small groups of students, who really want to learn, speeds things up considerably for both the tutor and the students themselves. Although we cover the essential theory for the vital underpinning knowledge of safety, hygiene and ethical practice, most of the training is practical. In a larger, further education class setting, there is just one tutor supervising, assessing and giving practical help and guidance for anywhere up to 30 students at one time. This is obviously something that Tranquility purposely avoids, thus giving us time to tutor on an almost individual basis. This also allows time for more practical work, so home-study is a vital necessity to fulfil the theory content and understanding of your course. At home you are expected to undertake instructed study by reading your manual which covers everything you need to know to successfully complete your course or workshop, which you would otherwise do during your college time. Case studies, in some courses only, are also expected to be carried out at home to ensure your continued progress, practice and competence.

Will I be given information on insurance and beauty and holistic membership on my chosen course?

Yes, on all of our courses you will be informed of how to gain insurance and of the various governing bodies that you may become a member of if you wish to.

What are CPD points?

CPD (Continued Professional Development) points are awarded by accredited courses and are recognised by professional beauty and holistic bodies and employers as evidence of a continued updating and addition of skills. Some professional bodies insist upon regular CPD points to retain membership. Many courses and colleges recognise CPD points when applying for other courses as evidence of prior learning. Therefore CPD points are useful to both trained therapists adding to their existing repertoire, and beginners who are considering going on to other courses or workshops.

As your class sizes are so small, if only one or two students are booked in to attend a particular course, will it still go ahead?

Yes! We specialise in small class, one-to-one tuition and endeavour to deliver the course you want when you want it.

What am I expected to bring to my course on the day?

You will need a pen, and it is advisable to also bring writing paper and a bottle of drinking water, although these items can be provided for those who forget! If you were sent or collected your course manual before the start date, do not forget to bring this with you! Please feel free to bring any relevant information or books on the subject matter of your chosen course to share with the rest of the class in discussions. We prefer you to bring a packed lunch, but can cater for those who do not. Please inform us of this when booking your course.
If you are suffering from any illness or recent injury, it is your responsibility to inform us before you attend any of our courses. Your health, care and well-being are very important to us and before attending a workshop we would like to discuss any details with you, and if necessary ask you to consult your GP.
